Finance officers must be prepared for General Election shocks

Councils need to ensure their budgets are resilient, whatever the outcome of the General Election, warns Rob Whiteman.

If anyone thought the political maelstrom of 2016 was a freak occurrence and things would settle down again, the first few months of this year have dispelled any such notions.

At a time when you might expect the Government to knuckle down to the task of Brexit negotiations, prime minister Theresa May threw a curve ball in the form of the snap General Election, scheduled for 8 June.
