It's time to formalise districts' health role

When it comes to influencing the determinants of health, Gill Kneller believes districts are already part of the solution – but could give greater support if they had a formal statutory role in Integrated Care Systems.

I am one of two district representatives on Hampshire's Health and Wellbeing Board and, at our most recent meeting, chief medical officer for England Professor Chris Whitty talked about the importance of ageing well.

He outlined the big difference that could be made to quality of life in our final years by small interventions. Physical activity, preventing falls and being socially connected are all key to this.
