How I long for the return of normality. I don't mean how things were before the pandemic – though I long for that too – I mean the word ‘normality'. For some reason, we now use the word ‘normalcy' instead – I must have missed the memo. Should I accept this as inevitable change, or should I rail against the Americanisation of the language?
As leaders, we are often juggling our time between the twin challenges of making the best of things as they are and seeking to change the world around us. Sometimes our time is best spent on the former, despite desperately wishing the world were different – dealing with the pandemic is a visceral example of doing just this.
