Getting localism right

Is localism getting a bad press? Of course we all believe in it, says Andrew Muter.

Is localism getting a bad press? Of course we all believe in it. Back in the old days, I used to remind myself that subsidiarity was a key principle describing the way the way that decision-making should work at different levels of government.

Tasks should only be done centrally where they cannot be performed at a more immediate or local level. It's a concept that places us in conflict with the dominant hierarchies on which most of our institutions are founded.
