Going for growth at Homes England

Homes England is almost doubling in size. This rapid ramp-up comes with some sizable problems, says Tracie Evans. The biggest challenge is for the existing and new cohorts to work collaboratively to co-create a 'bold and fearless culture'.

I never thought I would ever be part of growth in a public sector organisation, having been reducing them almost since I started work 1,000 years ago. But here at Homes England, we are almost doubling in size with the recruitment of near on 700 new roles in a year.

We need a significant increase in capacity and capability as we become a digital organisation which seeks to disrupt the housing market and create supportive solutions to deliver housing. This rapid ramp-up comes with some sizable problems. The first is the sheer logistics of developing that many new job descriptions, getting job evaluations, developing an employee brand, advertising and creating a conveyor belt of interviews while continuing with the day job.
