Head of Financial Services

Gloucester City Council, Circa £55K, plus Benefits.

Reporting to the Corporate Director of Resources, you'll be responsible for the leadership and operation of the council's financial services including financial planning, management accounting, technical accounting and procurement. You'll also be a key member of the council's senior team, contributing to corporate planning and strategy.

As the lead adviser on accountancy matters, and Deputy S151 officer, you will work closely with the Gloucester leadership team, elected members and partner organisations.

This is a terrific opportunity to reshape the Finance function, rebuild robust and effective financial practices, and ensure that Finance sits at the very heart of decision making.

Commercially astute and technically competent, you will of course need to be qualified, ideally though not necessarily CIPFA, with a keen awareness and significant experience of local government finance. Equally important will be your broader skills and competence. You'll certainly need to be influential, a real change agent with an ability to 'take people with you'.

We fully recognise that this is indeed a challenging role. But for the right person, it offers the potential for significant learning and a major credit on your CV. For an informal conversation, please call Pete Gillett on (01452) 396400. For more information and to apply please email jobs@gloucester.gov.uk
