Despite featuring high on local government's agenda – with the chancellor's promise of a ‘devolution revolution' – most of the public are still utterly unmoved. More than three-quarters (76%) either know a ‘little' or ‘nothing' about proposals to transfer decision-making powers from Whitehall to local areas across England.
Even in areas where changes are afoot only one in five (21%) claim to know a ‘great deal' or a ‘fair amount' about the proposals. Nevertheless the efforts to make it meaningful need to get under way.
