Heseltine highlights devolution 'botch'

The former deputy Prime Minister claimed the deals process had curbed ambitions in Cornwall and Newcastle.

Former deputy Prime Minister Lord Heseltine has claimed the deals process of devolving powers to local authorities has curbed ambitions in Cornwall and Newcastle.

He told the Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee it resulted in a ‘botch' in Cornwall because it lacked a mayor and North of Tyne was a ‘joke' as it excluded the area south of the river.
