The Home Office is ‘failing to engage meaningfully with local authorities' on asylum, according to a Public Accounts Committee (PAC) report published today.

PAC said councils had received ‘contradictory letters' about the use of accommodation for asylum in their areas and faced competition for properties, ‘driving up prices and exacerbating the homelessness challenges that local authorities already face'.
