The move to home working poses huge problems

The trend to more working from home looks set to continue post COVID, says Ben Page. 'But it poses huge problems for anyone invested in commercial property or city centres – which includes many local authorities.'

In the next few months we will all have been vaccinated – at least those of us who want to be. What happens next? The simple answer is that we don't know. What seems most likely is that a blend of office and remote working will become reality for at least 50% of the workforce in most administrative and knowledge-based jobs.

Around half of employees now want to work at home for the majority of the time, and 47% of employers say this is what they expect post pandemic. The management taboo against remote working has been busted. Most people now working remotely report a better work life balance and many organisations have discovered that they need offices for training, for team work and culture, but not for solo work.
