Home ownership can be a prickly subject. I saw for myself, growing up in an ordinary London suburb, the liberating, transformational impact of Margaret Thatcher's Right to Buy on many of my old school friends who lived in council properties, offering them a security and freedom unobtainable before.
While a lot has changed since then, a constant throughout the intervening 40 plus years has been the unbridled, enduring pride many – even to this day – still feel looking back to when they picked up the keys to their first home.
