Housing is a national priority - don't discourage districts

Cllr John Fuller makes an impassioned plea to the Government not to reduce the new homes bonus, warning it would prevent planning authorities from playing their role in the Government's housebuilding agenda.

Building more homes is a national priority.But as households get smaller and people live longer, it has become more difficult. If it was easy we wouldn't be in the position we're in. But we shouldn't be making it any harder than it is at the moment for those areas which are able to build.

New Homes Bonus (NHB) has been one of the most important tools in allowing residents to share in the benefits of new homes. Across the country it has financed leisure centres, parks and other infrastructure projects that have enhanced quality.
