Nothing is impossible when it comes to creating new councils

Heather Jameson writes: 'After a rapid, bumpy start to reorganisation, where councils have scraped together first thoughts at breakneck speed, it is back in the hands of the Government to consider what it believes is plausible.'

As the first reorganisation deadline hit last Friday, it became apparent it was somewhat anticlimactic. Instead of a clear vision of the structures that are likely to emerge, there is a clear vision of multiple options to be explored. 

What we know so far is that all areas put in proposals – with varying levels of coherence and plausibility. Even if some of them did so while protesting their objection to the whole thing – see here for a round-up.
