WORKFORCE

Three Influential roles

London Borough of Bexley.

Head of Children's Social Work - Up to £75,000

Joining us in this exceptionally influential role is your opportunity to be at the heart of an innovative plan that will place social work at the heart of Bexley, and children at the heart of social work. After reviewing our services and investing to improve them, we've adopted a social care philosophy that will empower the people who deliver it. With your help, we'll increase our capacity, inspire ambitions, cut paperwork and get professionals back on cases, where they belong.

About the role:

Essentially, you'll oversee the delivery of safe and efficient services by our front line social work teams. These will include our Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub, our Referral and Assessment Service, and 5 Locality Teams, who hold all long term social work interventions for child protection, looked after children and complex children in need.

You'll make a major contribution to realising our vision for the future, by empowering our staff to use their skills as professionals to achieve the best outcomes for children in Bexley.

Your experience:

We're looking for someone with experience of successfully transforming underperforming children's social care services into high performing ones. You'll need to have led and managed relevant services, including high risk and high complexity work. This must be backed up with a track record of developing a highly motivated, high achieving and stable workforce - one with a positive, customer-centred culture.

Your ability:

Underpinning everything will be your ability to lead and manage change effectively, both at a strategic and operational level. As an effective project manager, you can deal with high risk and high complexity in a way that delivers the best outcomes. You're skilled in working with a range of partners and stakeholders to develop effective solutions. You're also able to produce high quality, analytical and evidence-based reports. Not least, you can plan and control budgets, and achieve best value.

Children's Services at Bexley

Since underperforming in our last safeguarding Ofsted inspection in 2012, we have thoroughly reviewed our service and taken onboard recommendations, including Munro and other core social work philosophies. There's much work to be done. But while safeguarding was found to be inadequate, other services were Good (LAC and Adoption) or Outstanding (Fostering). This gives us all a great base to build from.

Why work for us?

We've a substantial commitment to improve services. In fact, we're investing an additional £5.2m over the next 3 years, on top of existing budgets. By joining us now, you'll have the support and resources to bring a new culture and pace into this service. For ambitious and resilient professionals, it's an opportunity to achieve outstanding performance.
