Last week, Eric Pickles announced the launch of the Government's new wave of community budget pilots aimed at helping Britain's 120,000 most troubled families.

The intention of the initiative, which builds on the Total Place programme established under the last government, is to enable co-ordinated local intervention to support those families most in need, heralding the beginning of the end for the siloed, single-agency approach to tackling complex problems.
