Interim chief executive threatens legal action

Slough Council’s interim chief executive has threatened to take out an injunction and seek damages from the politician who tried to block his permanent appointment, The MJ understands.

Slough Council's interim chief executive has threatened to take out an injunction and seek damages from the politician who tried to block his permanent appointment, The MJ understands.

The threat comes after deputy leader of the Labour group, Cllr Sabia Hussain, raised concerns about the choice of Roger Parkin at a meeting of Slough's appointments sub-committee, which will recommended him to full council when it meets later this month.

Mr Parkin – at his own cost - has instructed solicitors Barrett & Thomson to consider action against Cllr Hussain.

A letter sent on behalf of Mr Parkin to Cllr Hussain read: ‘Despite conclusion at the [sub-committee] meeting, you have continued airing your accusations in public to the media, on Facebook and Twitter.

'The means to object to our client's appointment have been exhausted by you.

'The appointments sub-committee has considered your allegations – all of which have been rejected – and you should come to terms in accepting this.'

This week council leader, Cllr Sohail Munawar - who backed Mr Parkin's appointment but now faces a leadership challenge after being suspended by the Labour party amid allegations that he distributed indecent material in January 2016 - ordered an independent review into the recruitment of the new chief executive and senior officers.
