It's wrong to buy - so think again

In announcing its plans to extend Right to Buy, the Government has managed to unite everyone from the Confederation of British Industry and the National Housing Federation to the Institute of Fiscal Studies, says Rob Whiteman

In announcing its plans to extend Right to Buy, the Government has managed to unite everyone from the Confederation of British Industry and the National Housing Federation to the Institute of Fiscal Studies in opposition to the scheme.

And notably, those Conservatives closest to the housing challenge such as Mayor Johnson and Philippa Roe, the leader of Westminster City Council, have publicly voiced their concerns about its potential negative effect on housing stock in the capital. Landlords and property speculators seem to be the only ones who are actively welcoming the extension.
