As one of the largest local authorities in the country, Kent County Council's decision to abolish the post of managing director has come under much scrutiny. Leader Paul Carter explains how it is part of a much bigger picture, namely the redrawing of its governance model.

At our county council meeting in December, something akin to a mini revolution took place in Kent. We decided to move to a governance model in which the post of managing director was removed.
