Kent's very own powerhouse

Cllr Paul Carter has stepped down as leader of Kent CC. Now he plans to apply his energies to local care and the vocational agenda, including apprenticeships. Ann McGauran reports

Paul Carter is a driven man. He may have stepped down this month as leader of Kent CC after 14 years in the job, but he's staying on as a councillor.

At the age of 65, and having also recently finished his four years as chairman of the County Councils' Network (CCN), he wants to work ‘three days a week, not six days'.
