The chairmanship of the Local Government Association remains in question as lawyers are still wrangling over whether Sheffield City Council rejoined in time to be counted in calculations for political control.

The chairmanship of the Local Government Association remains in question, with lawyers still wrangling over whether Sheffield City Council rejoined in time to be counted in calculations for political control. 

Sheffield's 11th hour bid to come back into membership on election day was set to shift the political balance of the association to Labour by less than 1%. The move would give Labour control of the chairmanship and its pick of the boards.
