The chancellor's announcement of an extra £5.7bn in funding for school buildings was great news – it's badly needed.

Britain is facing a looming crisis in primary school places. In September, our research showed that the country will need an extra 11,200 extra primary school classrooms, or as many as 1,600 new primary schools by 2024, to meet the forecast 336,000 rise in pupil numbers.
