I recently had the privilege of being asked to speak to a cohort of the National Graduate Development Programme (NDGP). I was supposed to inspire them and send them on their way with a skip in their step, passion in their hearts and their minds expanded.

Preparing for this event was an opportunity to remind myself of some of the values I hold most dear in public service and in public leadership, all of which have their roots in my formative teenage years.
