Letting go of London

Nick Bowes looks at what the next Government’s agenda should be for London and at how the city should respond to any shifting political landscape – and he believes fiscal devolution will be key.

As the ballot boxes head back into storage following the London Mayoral and Assembly elections, attention now turns towards the General Election. With Sadiq Khan confirmed as Mayor for a record third term, will the polls be proved right, and see him joined later in the year by a Labour Government?

For the whole of his time as Mayor, Khan has only ever had a Conservative Government in Westminster. Both his predecessors had periods when their own parties were in power in Westminster, with both saying they got more done as a result.
