LG Challenge: The quest for 2018's rising stars

Chief executives and senior managers are being encouraged to nominate their upcoming talent to take part in the LG Challenge. Mark Lloyd explains why.

The Local Government (LG) Challenge, where we seek out the brightest and best local government officers to compete in a series of tough real life tasks, is now entering its ninth year. Hosted by our member councils, LG Challenge is about inspiring, developing and providing solutions to problems faced by councils, from creating new tourist destinations to saving millions in adult social care.

Over a six-month period, ten contestants will tackle five challenges in councils across the country, ranging from the front line operational challenges to financial, creative and leadership tests. They will develop and hone their people and political management skills, their business acumen and their presentation style while also gaining valuable media experience.
