LGA accepts councillor sanctions as 'last resort'

The Local Government Association (LGA) has finally formally conceded councillors should be suspended for a maximum of six months for ‘serious’ standards breaches.

The Local Government Association (LGA) has finally formally conceded councillors should be suspended for a maximum of six months for ‘serious' standards breaches.

It had previously warned against the introduction of additional sanctions to the current regime.
