The July audit deadline should be pushed back to September 30 for future years, the Local Government Association (LGA) has told ministers.

Smith Square's call comes after professional services firm EY admitted 16 councils in the east of England and east Midlands will miss the July deadline for publishing their accounts this year due to an ‘unavoidable shortage of suitably qualified senior auditors'.
