LGA in limbo over next chairman

A question mark hangs over who will lead the Local Government Association (LGA) after a legal opinion claimed Sheffield City Council missed the deadline to rejoin in time to count in calculations of political balance.

A question mark hangs over who will lead the Local Government Association (LGA) after a legal opinion claimed Sheffield City Council missed the deadline to rejoin in time to count in calculations of political balance.

The council said it wanted to rejoin the association on 5 May – the day of the local elections – shifting the political balance at the LGA to Labour by less than 0.1%.
