It's the little things

Tony Kirkham explains how devolution and business rates reforms must improve the current system

I recently attended one of our council's policy cabinets about devolution. The discussion wasn't about regions or elected mayors but about neighbourhoods, community engagement and what is important to people.

Rather than wanting power and control over the transport system, people wanted to be involved in how we support our communities and neighbours. There was a long list of ways in which communities were looking to support themselves, from running library services to post offices to just saying hello to people in the street.
