Some 340,000 low-income families will face a council tax rise this month as England's local authorities cut support for the fourth year running.

Research has revealed 2.2m families in receipt of Council Tax Support (CTS) are now paying on average £169 more per year than they were under the Council Tax Benefit scheme abolished in 2013.
