Why not London?

London council leaders need to demand a referendum to confirm Londoners’ consent for a radical devolution package, writes Gareth Thomas, MP for Harrow West and a prospective candidate for London mayor.

Councillors across London and council leaders in particular need to demand of their next mayor an early referendum to confirm Londoners' consent for a radical devolution package. 

Control of property taxes, the ability to vary income tax, the right to introduce a tax on tourists, easing borrowing restrictions, control of the NHS, housing and education standards should all be devolved down from Westminster to London.
