WASTE

There's still a long way to go on the road to recycling

We should not be spending less on recycling, but more, according to Heather Jameson. The Government needs to legislate to cut waste at its source.

Environment secretary Michael Gove has finally caught up with public opinion on plastics and taken a stance on tackling climate change and ensuring manufacturers shoulder the burden of the cost of waste.

Central Government is somewhat late to the table on this. Extinction Rebellion has been blockading our cities since last autumn – and even serenaded a Surrey CC council meeting as a protest to the lack of action on climate change, while Swedish schoolgirl activist Greta Thunberg has galvanised student strikes.
