Managing pension funds is a local distraction

Local authorities should be focusing on building better communities and delivering great services to residents, not managing pension funds, argues Tracie Langley.

The differences between successful companies and companies that fail, whether they are private sector or local authority owned companies, have been well documented.

The best chance of success, after making sure the mission is profitable, is the golden triangle of good leadership, good governance and transparency. Often, when there is a deficit of one, there will be deficits of others, ending in a breakdown of decision-making, inefficient process and arguments between executives, non-executives and shareholders.
