Migrant children transfer scheme could be mandatory

The Government is consulting on making the National Transfer Scheme for unaccompanied asylum-seeking children compulsory for councils.

The Government is consulting on making the National Transfer Scheme for migrant children compulsory for councils.

Currently, participation in the scheme – under which unaccompanied asylum-seeking children (UASC) are taken into care by local authorities around the country – is voluntary.
