MP calls for council leaders to have London Assembly voting rights

London’s council leaders should be given the right to turn up and vote at a beefed-up London Assembly, a prospective mayoral candidate has argued.

London's council leaders should be given the right to turn up and vote at a beefed-up London Assembly, a prospective mayoral candidate has argued.

In a letter to The MJ, MP for Harrow West, Gareth Thomas, said the assembly should be given the power to pass laws and needed to be given ‘real teeth to scrutinise the mayor's budget and hold the mayor to account for the money that is spent in London'.
