North East backs down over mayor

The North East Combined Authority (neca) has softened its opposition to an elected mayor in return for a ‘radical devolution deal’.

The North East Combined Authority (neca) has softened its opposition to an elected mayor in return for a ‘radical devolution deal'.

Combined authority leaders had become less vocal in their resistance to having a directly elected mayor in the run up to the announcement on Friday.
