Northern city leaders have today unveiled a multi-billion pound blueprint for transport, including detailed plans for high-speed rail links, road upgrades and smart ticketing.

The first strategy from Transport for the North (TfN) proposes slashing journey times between urban areas through new high-speed links and sweeping upgrades of roads into smart motorways.
