Optimism in the face of financial gloom

Andrew Muter on how Newark & Sherwood District Council is meeting the challenges of financial austerity.

OK, I accept that its tough out there and the financial prospects are gloomy. But I'm being relentlessly optimistic and I have good reason to be.

A couple of years ago I was listening to the inspirational Sue Bruce, chief executive of Edinburgh City Council. Everything she described about her role was focused on her community, its prospects and how she could help shape investment.
