Osborne urged to ditch Whitehall ring-fence

Six leading think tanks call on chancellor to end ongoing protections for health, schools and overseas aid budgets.

Chancellor, George Osborne has been urged to drop his policy of ‘implicit and explicit ring-fencing of certain areas of spending' in a letter from six think tanks.

The joint letter, sent to The Daily Telegraph, said that other areas such as health and overseas aid should all be considered where savings could be made.
