As we entered 2020, Sir Michael Marmot revealed evidence showing that improvements in health and wellbeing in the UK had stalled for the first time in 100 years alongside a growing health gap between deprived and wealthy communities.
The Marmot review highlighted how cuts to local authorities, including the public health grant, had undermined capacity to improve health, leaving NHS partners sticking plasters on people and ‘sending them back to the conditions that made them sick'.
