Pension schemes hit by legislation threat

The Government has warned it could legislate to ensure Local Government Pensions Schemes (LGPS) are pooled if ‘insufficient progress’ is made by a 2025 deadline.

The Government has warned it could legislate to ensure Local Government Pensions Schemes (LGPS) are pooled if ‘insufficient progress' is made by a 2025 deadline. 

Conservatives gave a deadline for a wholesale transfer of assets to happen by the end of March and Labour has vowed to keep this and continue the last government's policy of merging the 87 local pension funds in England and Wales into eight pools.
