ECONOMIC GROWTH

Working to get our people up and running

Paul Najsarek outlines the ambitions of the West London Alliance work and health programme – a social and economic partnership involving Ealing LBC designed to support the community financially, in work and in health.

Whole systems change is driven by a variety of factors. Rarely do they come together overnight. But it is important to recognise when enough of them are in alignment to create the potential for real change.

On 26 February we launched the West London Alliance Work and Health Programme (WLA WHP). The programme has been commissioned by WLA through Ealing LBC on behalf of our partnership of seven north west London boroughs. Over the next five years our provider Shaw Trust, a charity with a long history of working with disabled people, will provide bespoke support to over 13,000 people with health conditions, disabilities, or disadvantages in the labour market, to help them find and keep work. The programme is funded through a grant from the DWP that we have partly matched by the European Social Fund (ESF) creating a £26m pot. This programme aims to transform participants' lives, lessen isolation and improve health outcomes, drive economic growth and increase the resilience of our communities.
