Plotting a unified approach to social work

In the East of England, 11 councils decided to tackle the issue of increasing reliance of social care agency workers head-on and, thanks to the support of the East of England LGA, are making headway. Louise Tibbert explains

Make no bones about it, being a social worker is tough. It is emotionally draining and requires sensitivity, patience and compassion in abundance during difficult and stressful situations which have to be tackled on a daily basis.

In recent years new legislation, demanding inspection frameworks, high profile serious case reviews and public sector cuts, have also taken their toll, combining to create a demanding practice agenda.
