Political deal ends LGA stalemate

The Conservatives will maintain the chairmanship of the Local Government Association, despite no longer being the largest party, in a deal thrashed out with between the two largest political groups. 

Sheffield City Council's bid to rejoin on election day shifted the balance of power to make Labour the largest party. However, lawyers examining the constitution ruled the city was too late to count in calculations to assess the balance of power.
