Poorest face £600 council tax hike, study shows

According to a new study by the Resolution Foundation council tax bills for the poorest households will rise by up to £600 a year.

Council tax bills for the poorest households will rise by up to £600 a year as a result of benefit reforms, according to a new study by the Resolution Foundation.

The study reveals that three-quarters of local authorities are set to increase council tax payments for the 3.2m households who currently pay no or a reduced amount of council tax. The Government is set to hand responsibility for council tax support to local authorities, while cutting funding by 10%.
