PRINCIPAL AUDITOR

Employer: Bedford Borough Council

Salary: £44,792 - £47,687 + essential car user allowance

Play a senior role in our dynamic internal audit team.

This is an excellent opportunity to hone your auditing and management skills as you support the preparation and implementation of the Council's risk-based internal audit plan. You will report to the Head of Internal Audit and will be expected to conduct in-depth and complex risk based internal audit assignments, value for money studies and undertake investigations into suspected fraud and irregularities within the Council. A key role will be to advise management and the audit committee on risk management, internal controls and governance issues. You will lead, manage and motivatea small audit team to ensure audit assignments are completed within the agreed timescales and to a high professional standard. Completion of the annual audit plan is paramount and you will be required to undertake regular monitoring and produce quarterly update reports on performance of your team.

You'll come to us with a proven track record of audit work at a senior level backed up by a full professional qualifi cation from the Institute of Internal Auditors (CMIIA), Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA), or CCAB equivalent and you will be fully conversant with the CIPFA Code of Practice for Internal Audit in Local Government, Experience of applying risk based internal auditing techniques and principles within a Local Authority is essential and you should be computer literate , with excellent oral and written communication skills, a team player and able to meet deadlines.
