Councils and other public sector bodies could see their audit fees slashed by 40% under new outsourced contracts for audit practice.

The Audit Commission has announced the four companies that will take over the five-year contracts from 2012/13. They are: Grant Thornton; KPMG, Ernst and Young; and DA Partnership.
