Proactively planning for economic growth and housing

The new brand of ‘grey belt’ land may turn out to be a stroke of genius in fostering more rational debates about land appropriate for development, says Caroline Green

As a long-time amateur planning geek, I'm pleased to see the new Government moving fast on its planning reform agenda.

As a localist, I believe local plans should be locally led, but in a city with one of the worst housing affordability problems in the country in which demand for employment space and housing need far outstrips land available for development, a stronger framework is essential.
