The role of councillor should become a full-time profession as part of further devolution, it has been argued.

Speaking at an event organised by the Institute for Government think-tank, the West Midlands Combined Authority's portfolio lead for levelling up, Brigid Jones, said members were increasingly being tasked with taking on greater responsibilities over wider areas.
