This provisional settlement makes the job of districts harder

The Provisional Local Government Finance Settlement falls short of what district councils need and leaves funding gaps that undermine the ability to deliver essential services, says Cllr Sharon Taylor.

As councils head into the Christmas period, there's much uncertainty about what lies ahead of them. The rapid spread of the Omicron variant ratchets up the pressure on households, businesses and their local councils who do so much to serve and support them.

Against this backdrop, the Provisional Local Government Finance Settlement was a mixed bag.
