The proportion of concerns about public safety in local government dealt with by a whistleblowing hotline has almost doubled in two years, figures seen exclusively by The MJ have revealed.

Calls to Public Concern at Work's (PCAW) advice line, which includes cases about safeguarding of children, soared from 12% in 2012 to 22% in 2014.
